Well worth trying Hab. medusa again, fantastic flowers. Just needs to dry out somewhat in the winter when it goes dormant.

Catts looking good! Loving the medusae (and fine Roberta, you don't have to twist my arm, I will try the Hab. medusa again...if it dies though, that blood is on your hands). Jewel orchid without the leaves in the picture, what kind of madness is that? Reminds me though, mine started opening a few days ago. Looks like somebody spilled wine on your phal as well.

Just to make you drool... everybody needs one of these. (Teensy green shoots just starting to appear. It'll be a good year.) Actually, I'd say the same for Bulb. medusae, but then I love wild-looking/fuzzy and fluffy orchids.

OrchidBro- It is a normal Ludisa discolor but the inflorescence is quite long and the flowers are all slightly tilted...it is a little mutant

wow Roberta!! that is a show stopper! and me too! Frilly and looking like a sea creature??? sign me up!

I think Hab. medusa is easier than the Catasetinae, similar dormancy/growth pattern and temperature, much lower light. (Don't need, or probably want, to stay completely dry during dormancy but on the dry side, once new growth appears no need to hold back on the water) I grow them in a terrestrial mix with a little potting soil and a lot of perlite and/or pumice, a bit of sand if I have some handy.

Roberta - Yes, that is a stunning, and drool worthy, Hab. medusa.

DC - Yes, I could tell that was a Ludisia discolor, I was just expecting some photos of the beautiful leaves as well. Now that I look at yours and mine, yours does look a little funky.

I don’t have the right attitude/culture for growing anything Medusa. I enjoy from afar. The Purple Rain... now that’s been on my wish list for quite awhile!

I am very pleased but I want the blooms to hang around for longer. Maybe they didn’t like being moved into the porch for my wife to enjoy lol

Yup, that’s always a problemo ...
Movement. They need to suck it up and deal, in my opinion.
