Don't know nutt'n about the vendor nor nutt'n.

Leaves look like the comoros variety :(

what are the differences between Madagascar and Comore plants?

Leafmite 06-10-2015 11:51 AM

The Madagascar one has shorter leaves. They tend to be thicker and a little less curved. When it blooms, the flowers are smaller, too.
I Googled for pictures and found this:

Angraecums...: Angraecum leonis (Size Identifies)

Thank you. So I have an adult one from Comore for sure. The little one, maybe, is Madagascar form.

I never had any idea that there were two different types until Beth posted about it. I have no idea what mine are but, if Beth cannot find the Madagascar form in the US, it probably means they are not that type.

I wonder if this place : Austin Creek Orchids might have one. It couldn't hurt to contact them. I know nothing about them but they do have some Slc Bright Angels and they may have things that are not listed. Looks like they have many Raymond Burr Orchids.

Far as I can tell, after four year of talking to countless nurseries across the US, and a couple in Germany and France, there is a widespread knowledge gap, even among established growers/vendors, about the existence of two forms of Angcm. leonis.

The Comoro variety is fairly common in trade in the US and is a mid-sized plant with a spread of approximately 12" when mature . Leaves are thinner than the Madagascar variety at all growth stages, approx. 7" at maturity, and distinctly curved.

The Madagascar leonis is a chunkier, stouter plant, with a mature spread of approximately 7" --leaves are fatter, straighter and roughly 3-4" fully matured.

First picture is of my mature Comoro leonis and offsets.
Second picture shows a young Comoro, left, and young Madagascar.
Third picture is of a young Madagascar, showing the chunky, straighter leaves characteristic of this variety.
Last pic is a mature Madagascar leonis that highlights the thickness of its leaves relative to the Comoro.
