Good growing everyone!

Heather you gave me an !
So, last night I decided to unpot my plant and grow It like I grow my Ascocenda miniatum (which I get to flower nearly every year... flowering now) So should work with the Rhynchostylis coelestis. I have put it in the same window (S). Here are a couple shots - Apologies, they arn't very good (It was late )
I need to get a slightly bigger vase, but this will do for now.

Hi Karen,
Thanks for your comments. To answer your question I 'Bathe' the Asco everyday for 35mins minimum. I have a plastic pot as big as the vase & just take the plant out of the vase & put it into the container containing it's 'bath' (water & fert ) I have an egg timer which tells me (or hubby when time's up) so Seeing we do for one plant figured we can do 2... this works - It's not 'time consuming' ..but I wouldn't recomend doing If someone has lots of these! here's an example of 'bath time.'..
as far as roots are concerned I train them to bend to fit glass vase using metal plastic coated wire ties you get on electric appliances; which everyone at work brings/gives me.
.. voilà

That is exactly how I water almost all my plants as they are almost all in s/h. I have about 40 and I do that to them several times a week but only for about15 min. each. It takes me about 2 1/2 hrs to do them all. You should see my kitchen when I do it as I have 12 baths going at the same time. My 2 ascos are not thriving so I may do them the way you are doing yours. My 8 mounted ones I do that to almost everyday so adding the ascos to them wouldn't be a big deal.

Thanks so much for the info. I'll probably do that with my rhino too.

Hi, Nenella and Karen!

i don't know if I'm brave enough to go for the whole growing in a vase naked roots thing, which is why I left it in the basket - I am watering by the same method once a week at the moment, but will soon have to increase this as the days get brighter.

it's all decisions, decisions, this orchid managing, isn't it?

Regards

Heather

I don't know how I'm going to try to grow mine. I got it last week and I've been so busy that I just plopped it in the Shadehouse.

It's the last week of our work contract season so it's crazy busy around here. I guess I need to get a plan together.

The hydro vase sounds really interesting and I do a lot of semihydro already. I might give it a go.

I let mine sit around how it arrived for about three weeks, and finally decided to grow it like the rest of my vandas and ascocendas. I grow them bare root and water every day, sometimes twice a day in the summer. I potted my Rhynco. in a wood basket. I usually use a bit of spag., but I didn't have any. I might add some soon though.

Everyone that posted pics seems to have nice healthy plants.

Well I'm on vacation starting today so I guess I'm going to figure out how I want to grow this one.

I like the vase idea but I'm afraid I would knock it over. I'm pondering....
