Still haven't given up on mine although I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. As spring approaches in fits and starts, controlling conditions has not been easy, but my gigantea is starting a new leaf and I'm feeding more frequently and hoping. This year is its last chance though.......

Hi Beverly,I was looking forward to seeing pics & still am If you have time to post photos and tell us what's happened in between time would be super.

Hedge I hope your gigantea flowers for you but, ohhhh don't give her up!!! I waited 4 years for a bellina to flower for the first time and she now has a near permanance of 3/4 spikes on her... same with Neo f..
3 yrs! 5 yrs & still waiting for an Onc.sphachelatum..

As for this plant, I am in the same shoes as you, still trying to get that spike to grow! this is a real challenge for me too as it's now been 2 years!!! I am totally persuaded that if I am patient I will get to see it in flower :cloud9

Hopefully other members that got this as a project plant will chime in with how they are doing & share their experiences & 's !

I have an absolutely gigantic Oncidium sphacelatum someone gave me - I potted it up a pot size (to 25cm), and it's nearly overflowing that. It hasn't flowered in the year I've had it (I got it in spectacular bloom). I suspect perhaps it isn't getting enough light, and looking at some of the crinkly new growth, sometimes not enough water either!

Here it is when I got it:

I know I should be patient, Nenella, I have been with a Ferocactus stainesii which took 26 years to flower!

Discus,
My mum lives in Kenya (Nairobi) and she has huge sphacelatum's in cement pots-they live outside and flower every Nov/December. I am short (1m55) 5'2" ? & the spikes are huge and plant with spikes are taller than I am. As far as I know they have no more medium left in the pots and are super cramped.. so all I can say is don't repot !! also she hardly ever fertilizes but has had them over 20 yrs at least.
I have already posted a photo in the past I'll try to find it soon and re-post.
