There's a good chance it is Psychopsis sanderae.

It was very difficult for me to determine whether or not your flower had the glandular tipped fringes or not.

Psychopsis sanderae has glandular tips on the fringes.

At least you know that it is between 2 species - Psychopsis sanderae or Psychopsis versteegiana.

Psychopsis are one of the most difficult genus of orchids to tell the species apart from because of the minutia involved in separating them. It is equally just as difficult to tell the difference between the species from the hybrids for the same reason.

Hi,

no, it went outside only for a few minutes for the photos. It is Zone 7a here, but approaching summer now.

O! Thanks for sharing that. Where do you grow this glorious creature indoors? Do you grow it mounted?

Just delved, found these on ebay:

BUTTERFLY PSYCHOPSIS SANDERAE X PSYCHOPSIS PAPILIO KAMIYA ORCHID | eBay

Course, I am in enough trouble as it is with what I have right now.

Hi,

@philip: thanks for your opinion! I have two young versteegiana from different sources, so maybe in two years we can compare.

And yes, I wondered if my plant is a papilio x sanderae (=Butterfly), since the discs under the fringes are rather large. The leaves are not very much speckled. My other Butterfly should produce a stalk any time soon, so...

I decided to go for Psychopsis since they do well in warm living rooms and even tolerate lower humidities. Mine grow in pots, coconut fibre cubes with lava 2:3

Default Sources for Psychopsis sanderae

Where did you purchase your P. sanderae? I have been looking for one and no vendors seem to have one. How big is it, by the way? I have read that it is a smaller plant, at least for Psychopsis but I cant find actual dimensions. Thanks.

Dave
