Pleinoe Formosa - How to put to sleep? Male
Default Pleinoe Formosa - How to put to sleep?

I have a pleione formosa which I know is a bit like a daffodil, if I am correct. It flowered beautifully after I purchased it at POE, and has grown nicely during the summer. The leaves are now beginning to wither. My question is, how do I handle it from here on out. Should I just stop watering it and let it dry out? Once dried, should I leave it in the same medium, or should I take the bulbs out, store them, and then replant in the early spring?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Default

Wait until the leaves drop off naturally, let them dry a bit, and then put them in something like pine shavings, in a bag, and stick them in the fridge. In the spring, pull them out and plant them. The bag keeps the fridge from drying them out, the pine shavings help prevent mold. If you have winters that stay above freezing but get down into the upper thirties, you won't need a fridge.
