she says that the gravel at the bottom is to allow for air flow and free drainage of the layer above to avoid sitting in water.
she doesnt specify anything about erwinia but im certain that theres certain measures that can be followed in other threads on the board. maybe an anti-bacterial/fungicide.
as for the bract, she doesn't mention it. and from the pics it looks as though she just inserted them into the media. im guessing it would be optional but it may help to leave it on because the stems arent attached to the plant anymore and the small nodes may dry out if not protected anymore. maybe keiki paste will help too.
