Bulbophyllum pardalotum x self
 

This is my first Bulbophyllum. I am reluctant to acquire Bulbophyllum because they seemed to me they require more attention than I could give them. And, I do not like odiferous flowers. This plant was reasonably priced, so if it turns out to be a plant I cannot grow, it won't be an expensive lesson! Right?

That's a cutie!

I have the pardolatum growing on a round tree fern ball. It is a very cute mount and bloom BUT the flowers close up during the day, open at night. It has no offensive odor.

For me, it had to be large before it would bloom. It is watered once a day and once it starts blooming, will bloom for months. Mine is blooming now and has been for two months.

Thank you Sonya and Brooke. Glad to know how to grow this plant Brooke. More importantly, glad to know it "ain't no stinkin orchid"! Kawamoto Orchids advised that this one will take 1 to 2 years to bloom.

Can you post a picture of your plant Brooke? I'd like to see what I am going to have one of these days!!!

I don't have a picture of the plant because the blooms are always closed every morning. I can tell you it is a very fast growing Bulbo but it had to totally cover the tree fern ball before it bloomed. It now is growing on top of its self.

My plant is in Fort Wayne, Indiana! It went from Hawaii to Memphis, TN and from Memphis, TN to Indianapolis, In and then it went by truck from Indy up I-69 to Fort Wayne. And I picked it up at 8pm, unpacked it and now it is hanging with my other mounted orchids.

The weather here in Fort Wayne has been very temperate BUT low humidity. So after growing here for two weeks, I decided to wrap sphagnum moss around the roots to provide additional moisture. The leaves were starting to look washed out. It has been four days since I added sphagnum and watered once a day-- they recovered their green color. This plant seems to react fairly quickly to its environment.

Thanks Tindomul. The leaves are a lovely shade of green. It is easy to grow an orchid when you start with a healthy plant from the gitgo!
