Just joined in NorCal

Hi all, I've been lurking a bit since I joined a couple weeks ago. I just restarted growing orchids a couple of years ago after many years of growing other things (only outdoor plants). I'm really enjoying what is available now, and am trying some types I've never had, like phragmipedium. So far, my orchids love their new San Francisco home. I lived for a time in Sonoma county, and successfully got Cypripedium reginae to do well there, multiplying and blooming well (surprised the heck out of my Canadian supplier). That's the only terrestrial I've ever tried. Right now I'm just trying out any kind that appeals to me.

Anyway, thanks for providing this site, really interesting and some wonderful, inspiring photos here!

Welcome to Orchid Board! I love cypripediums and phragmipediums and all slipper orchids, they're my favorite! What all do you have?

You should try a Paph. sanderianum. Do they apeal to you? If you do get one be prepared to spend quite a bit. They are slow but very rewarding. The best place to get them is from Leo Schordje. He has multigrowth plants for the best prices. schordje.com Just thought I'd add my 2 cents. Happy growing!

Hi Orchid Boy, thanks! Yes, I love all the slipper-type orchids. I have 4 Paphiopedilums, only one has a name. One is the picture that I thought was attached to my name (not sure if others see it, but I don't), plus one purple & green one, and one white & green one. I have a phragmipedium that a friend gave me with no tag. I just ordered Phrag. besseae that should arrive this week. That P. sanderianum looks wonderful, I saw one (I think) at the SF Conservatory of Flowers in bloom. I'll check out that guy's website, thanks for the encouragement!
