I got this plant at Sunset Valley Orchids when I visited their nursery at the end of June. I can't take credit for the blooms since it came in bud. In shipping one spike blasted 8 buds and left one and the other spike only blasted one of the 8 buds. I really like it and it is supposed to be easier to bloom than the species in the hybrid. Seagulls Tangerine is Laelia harpophylla x Laelia kautskyi. I looked in the RHS to see if this cross is registered but I didn't find anything. Thanks for looking and I hope you like it!

I just love the colors on this....so yummy!
They have tall spikes ....if it didnt blast a spike it would have been a magnificent display of flowers

Thanks everyone! Yeah too bad they blasted but at least not all of them did! Hopefully I can get it to bloom again with lots of flowers!

Wynn Dee - Your beautiful Fred Clake cross has not been named but I'm sure that Fred will get around to it. Just two little corrections, all the Lealias in this cross are now Cattleyas and he parents of
C. Seagulls Tangerine are
(C. harpophylla X C. neokautskyi)

Thanks for the info but I know about the name change to Cattleya. I just prefer to go by the tag. I copied the parents of Seagulls Tangerine from Fred Clarke's website and he told me when I bought it what the parents are. I'm not saying your wrong but I have never heard of neokautskyi. I have always seen it as kautskyi, unless they have changed that name too.

Also I looked it up and Laelia or Cattleya kautskyi is a synonym of neokautskyi. So I guess we are both right.

You say that you use the RHS database to find out if plants have been registered, from that I assume that you trust their information. If so, check their database for the parentage of Cattleya Seagulls Tangerine.
