The plants...

Group shot. Details plant by plant...

Cycnodes Wine Delight: I had a big debate with myself about the size to get for this, or whether to get it at all. The problem being though it sounds gorgeous, a lot of people say that the smell, though nice, is so strong they can't stand it! In the end I compromised by getting a young plant. I reckon by the time it flowers I'll be 'qualified' for a more difficult relative if I do have to get rid of it! And with luck I'll be in a bigger place with a spare room... My plant has quite a bit of discoloration on the leaves. I think it got battered in packing and transit: the newest/middle leaves look OK so far. Will be monitoring though.

Max Picta: These were not listed and I was told they were very small. I was expecting a bulb or two straight out of the flask so a very healthy well established plant (if small) was a nice surprise. I hear they are slow to start blooming, so I still have a long way to go though.

Paph venestum: worried about this one. It came out a bit squashed and loose in the pot. One leaf fell off, and it looks like there might be some rot at the base. I think I may have to repot and investigate, which is something I was hoping to avoid straight away with my first Paph. The leaves are gorgeous as expected though: in person they have some of the effect of those plastic 3D pictures that move when you tilt them. Sort of the same texture.

Phal cornu-cervi 'red': Nice young plant, nothing spectacular. I'm hoping it will be mostly red with yellow stripes as shown on the website, but I know these vary. If it's on one of the colour extremes I may just have to get one the other colour to balance it!

Dtps Purple Martin: I choose the biggest size from the blooming page, so I'll admit to being initially disapointed. However it does have a spike, as advertised... in fact it has 2, and lots of lovely root growth. So a nice plant.

Sedirea japonica: nice, strong plant by the look of it. Bought as blooming size: no spikes, but I think there might be a slight bulge, so I'm hopefull it will bloom this year!

Sophronitis cernua: The project plant! Nice little thing, tiny but looks healthy.

Very happy, except for the paph!

Nice haul!! I saw the group pic in the other thread, but it's nice to see each plant.

Don't worry about Purple Martin, it is a small Phal. I bought one from a different grower last year and I think it is smaller than yours, though also blooming size. Overall you got very nice plants! I hope there's nothing to seriously wrong with your Paph.

Not teasing, just writing a long post!

I have 5 cats: as they appear, Merlin, Teddy, Walter, Margali and Purdey. Basically I took in Purdey as a stray, she turned out to be already pregnant, and I ended up keeping all 4 kittens! They are all neutered....

I hope the paph will be OK... it might be a few days before I get re-potting etc sorted, what with having found scale on another plant I have, so all my existing plants are going to be sprayed (have to go get the first batch I sprayed in from outside... several more batches to go....), plus work for a course I'm doing to finish, plus actual work...

New plants ARE currently in the bath, as I was going to give them an area in the kitchen, but I don't want them in the same room as possibly infected plant, and I have a very small bathroom!

I know what you mean about the paph leaves. My girls have touched the leaves and commented that 'the plant seems fake'. The paphs are the only orchid/plant they notice...even when the others bloom!

Argh! You must be a big old softy. I think that I would have done the same though :)

Aww, such sweeties... *kisses and hugs ALL of the cats*

Interesting that they had wrapped your plants up less than they did mine... Both times I've gotten bubble-wrap around the plants and they've been so very well packed that no crushing damage has even been possible.

Anyway, lovely little helpers and nice haul you got there.
