Phal. w/extra parts
This plant has bloomed for 5 years, perfect flowers this time they have extra parts, anybody have an idea, desease, culture, mutation of some sort.
|
It looks like a hairlip :hmm
|
The term for this is a 'peloric' flower. Check out
www.angrek.com/AAOS/past/9802/TXT/peloria.html for an explanation of why this may occur |
the above link didn't work ... try googling for article by Alex Challis titled:
Excessive Lip Service: Peloric Orchids |
It's seems like a pseudo-peloric (my own term  ) where the labellum has taken on the characteristic of the petal or sepal.
I still think it looks like a hairlip :coverlaugh: |

...and my thanks goes to Joanna (cneos) for having suggested the article :D
I found it to be very interesting as I have a peloric phal equestris and it happens to be one of my favorites :D |
Which one? Sue
I could have gotten 'Gino' peloric but I chose not to and my non-peloric is in bud :) .. I find it needs a lot of water  (it is growing in chc, charcoal and perlite not sphag) |
It's Phal equestris
