Flickr Member? Please Read!!

For some time now I've noticed flickr members posting text hyperlinks to their orchid photos on flickr. I thought perhaps they didn't post image hyperllinks because the BB code didn't allow it. Finally gave it a try today and posting image hyperlinks actually does work.

Here is what I usually see posted...

Epidendrum ciliare 09-03-24 on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

While it is easy just to copy and paste the flickr page URL, I think that most people would prefer if you took a couple more seconds and posted an image hyperlink instead...

Here are the steps to create an image hyperlink...
  1. Click on the All Sizes link above your flickr photo and grab the photo's URL
  2. Click the http://www.orchidboard.com/community...nsertimage.gif button and paste the photo URL into the dialogue box
  3. Grab the URL for your photo page on flickr, highlight/select the image text in your message body, click the http://www.orchidboard.com/community...createlink.gif button and paste the photo page URL into the dialogue box

Here's what it should look like...

HTML Code:

[URL="http://www.flickr.com/photos/epiphyte78/3387210590/"][IMG]http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3452/3387210590_34ce6108ff.jpg[/IMG][/URL]
Remember...as per flickr guidelines...the image must link back to its page on flickr.

Any questions? Feel free to use this thread to practice posting image hyperlinks.

I completly agree. I don't bother with thread that post pictures that way, and find myself visiting this forum less because of the high number of people who post thier pictures in this fashion.

I hope everyone takes note to your suggestions above.

I don't see anything wrong with posting links. All you have to do is click on the link, it doesn't take much effort ;). Also, for people that still use dial-up internet connections, it makes the pages load much quicker if there are no pics, especially in pic heavy threads. Just my :twocents:

There is no problem. But I don't prefer to jump back and forth (see the picture in one window and read the comments in another)

I guess I am being as lazy as the poster.

Although, this forum has not problem with attracting and retaiing members, I think a lot of people are turned off by these types of posts, myself included. And those I have talked to face to face.

Just an observation to make the forum better. And not even my observation. I think the original poster was posting the instructions in case some were not aware of how it is done.

Thanks, I'll give it a try, haven't had time to figure out how to insert the images yet.

I agree, I prefer to see the pictures in the thread rather than going to a different window. I sometimes look at the ones with just a text link, but sometimes I just skip past those, especially if I've already been reading the forum for a long time that day.

I use Picasa photo sharing and you can do something similar with that (which is where most pics I've posted are hosted).

I had no idea about this! The reason I use flickr now is because it would take like 10 minutes to get each picture down to the right size (not too big and not so small that I lost picture quality) so I could post pics. I will try it the next time I post. Thanks!

Im gonna try it here:

:scratchhead:
Why didnt it work?

RosieC 03-26-2009 04:02 PM

I can get your picture to post as you can see.

I did the following. I typed [IMG] then the link, then [/IMG] after the link (with no spaces between the link and the tags). These tages with the square brackets are HTML tags and tell the forum to treat it as an image rather than a link.
