Encyclia cordigera help???? Male
Default Encyclia cordigera help????

I was at an orchid show back in the spring of this year and found this flower , it had an amazing scent of chocolate as the sun shined on it , after 2 mnths the flowers fell and the spike started to dry up . I cut the spike down almost to the base of the leaves since the stem comes from between them , I decided to seperate the plant in two.. I dont know if this was a good thing to do ????. and wondered how long it takes for pheusudo bulbs to regrow as the 2 that were there are now shrivelling up . I repotted them into 2 clear well draining pots and used spagnum moss and bark for both and have them under
T5 lights 15.5 hrs a day . Am i missing anything ?

Earlier in the year, I also purchased an encyclia cordigera (from my local Wegmans). I was afraid to repot it while it was blooming. When I did repot it, It was 2 separate plants (2 pbulsbs and 3 pbulbs) packed in nothing but moss. I repotted into a coarse fir, lava rock, charcoal mix. Its little round psuedobulbs have also shriveled a bit. I assumed some shriveling was fine but I am interested to see what others say. Right now, one of the 2 plants has a new growth.

thanks for your reply , I wasnt sure as i took a clean razer blade and sliced the plant in 2 ..forming 2 sections and i put some root enhancer jelly on the cut section to help repair the slice ,,,hoping i havent poisoned them . the roots looked very healthy but now i have 2 plants 4 phesdo bulbs but only one spike was present and now it is dried up and about an inch from base of the forks of the 2 leaves , and dont believe it will form a spike there again .
