Default Sharry Baby spike?

Hello:

I got this seedling this year. It has one pseudobulb as you can see and I see a new growth. Is this a spike or a new pseudobulb? Either way I'd be happy . Please let me know your thoughts. Thx.

It's a pseudobulb. I'm pretty sure spikes grow form the lateral sides of the pseudobulbs on these guys. Rule of thumb is three pseudos for a bloom, correct me if I'm wrong. But hey it's happy enough to grow on!

Onc. Sharry Baby, a fav of mine and soon to be added to my collection. The plant grows very fast with over 300 flowers on a mature plant and the inflorescence emerges from their axil. It's is obviously happy producing a pseudo.

yes, to amplify, a spike will arise from the side of a mature (fully grown) bulb, following along the fold of a leaf, about 90º from where your new pseudobulb is arising. that new bulb you have should be mature in 4-6 months.

Surely it is a new lead and not a spike. From the very start spikes are thinner and grow upward like an asperagus sprouts.

Hi there. I've had Sherry Baby in my collection for several years. It is new growth which will develope into a psudobulb. Make sure that you don't let it dry out too long between waterings or else the leaves will be pleated. When the bulb is nice and fat, then allow it to dry a little longer between waterings to twigger flower production. They seem to like lots of light too. Have fun, your gonna like this one.
