I like that suggestion!! I have a hybrid of it, and it smells so wonderful. Though of the EU growers, I've never heard of Wichman or Wilhelm Hennis. I'm surprised to see the UK orchdispecies site still up, since they annonced early this year that they were closing.
What about Cattleya intermedia? Seems to be very much like C. aclandiae, in that it's compact, easy to bloom and takes a wide range of temps. I did a quick search and it's common (and in price range) in EU and seems to be as well in the US (found it at SBOE, HR, clown alley...)
