Nooo silken buy it, there are still ways!! Its a treefern mount I believe so you can trim it down and pot the entire mount. Like someone said (camille??) potting in a clay pot and sphagnum might be just fine.

Also I did order this morning from HB and bought the S. cernua. I also sent some Nepenthes to join the trip

Well, I have e-mailed Hawaiian Botanicals to see what they think about potting it on the mount and growing it cooler in the winter. I will decide based on what they think. I hate to buy a plant that I know won't be happy from the start when space and $$ could be used on a different one that would be more likely to succeed. But it would be fun to be in the project. We're away a lot in the summer and the greenhouse gets hot and sunny so a mounted plant is just not an option. Hopefully they will respond!

J&L sell it in a net pot so it shouldn't be a hard transfer to a mount for the plant. I'm going to mount mine.

I hate the smell of Haraella retrocala.... But my roommates love the plant... I just wanted to make sure because I currently own no mounts. So if it came without it I would have went and bought a small terracotta pot in the mean time!
Thank you Melanie!

My haraella only has a very light fragrance. I literally have to stick the flower whole into one nostril to detect the "lemony" part I had another one that bloomed itself to death within 6 months that smelled like overheated electrical wiring...
And of course I just got my den. rigidum last month and the flowers smell like battery acid! I hope that next year the scent will be different if I succeed in making it bloom in my conditions!

And now, to try and find another way to position my light so I can fit my new plants in and hang my mounted ones properly... Oh why did that catt have to smell so damn good? And why did I HAVE to try a miltoniopsis? And why do I want an angcm. bosseri?

I often ask myself the same question with my poorly oriented window... But then again everything grows so why not?
This summer I WILL HAVE to buy a new shelf!
As for the smell of her Haraella retrocala I think it smells of wet dirty socks.
Just like I think venosa smells like ham...

I'll be keeping mine in the net pot. I already feel like I have too many orchids on mounts/vases demanding daily attention.

Well, I already had one of these from a trade I did with other members, but in sad condition. So my objective for this project is to get this plant into good form. I'm well on my way. It has started to grow a new lead and one small root. I mounted it on apricot with a small amount of moss. I will be growing it outdoors for the summer and will see what condition it's in when winter rolls around to see if I should bring it in.

For those that are getting it and keeping it mounted, I'm terrible with mounts, but this orchid seems to be one of the more forgiving ones of low humidity and occasional neglect. I had one up until 2 years ago (lightning fast case of rot killed it) and it really liked to dry out almost completely between waterings. With lots of light (new growths should have purple edging) it is also easy to bloom.
