I agree with the others about mounting and humidity. I have one mounted and the humidity in my orchidarium is around 70% or higher. I only water every other day by misting it really good and it is bone dry by the time I get to the next watering for it. It hasn't been blooming since I went to this watering schedule, which has been about 6 months now. I am trying to water it daily when I have time. I'm really looking forward towards trying one in a pot! I just placed my order today and they said it would ship out in Monday!

I notified Marty about the problem you're all having with the new gallery. :dunno:

Mine came today! Woo Hoo! Unfortunately I was away helping set up for our society show this weekend. DH unpacked the box. He was only expecting 1, but like the trooper he is he watered all 3 and left them to drain in the sink. Here's a group shot. I'll take one of Smelly Ellie by herself tomorrow if I have time. L-R is Phal. bastianii, Smelly Ellie, and Soph. rosea. Great looking plants! I'm very pleased.

Ut-Oh

Thanks to Marty for moving my photo.
I had all the same problems that it seems other people are having, so I gave up and dumped it into my own gallery and then found I couldn't move it.

So, now the bittersweet news...
What I thought yesterday was an errant root seems to be developing a fork at the end that's remarkably like the beginnings of a flower spike.
Although I'm excited to see Harry Eller bloom, I guess this disqualifies me from the project, right ?

Hello all,

I am not officially in the Project group but I wanted to get the plant and raise it with y'all.

I accidentally did a bad thing at the orchid show here in Houston.

I was at Andy's booth and he had a Haraella there that was mounted and two young men were looking at it. I chimed in that Oak Hill also had the plant but in pots and that they offered it 25% off for this Project.

They said thank you and then went off to get one (I thought.)

I bought the one that was at Andy's because I need the orchids to be mounted since my orchidarium has an automatic misting system and potted plants stay to wet.

Later I returned to Andy's (who can resist all the great species!!!) and the lady who was working the booth with the other man told me I was very lucky because just five minutes after I bought my little Haraella some men who were interested came back to buy it and when she described them I knew it was the two I sent off!!

This post is to offer my mea culpa to the man and his friend. I really thought y'all preferred to get one at the discount and potted so I took that one.

I feel so bad since I am not even in the Project and I am sure they were because I heard them mention it and that is what caught my attention to see what they were looking at.

Well they say all is fair in love, war and orchids (I think that's right, lol) but I really was not trying to pull a fast one on y'all. I actually thought I was helping you find a better deal.

Anyway, I will post a pic of the little cutie after the show is over sometime after this Sunday.

So, this spike won't qualify you for the seedling that Dave (flhiker) has offered (there's also somebody else who has a spike ;) ) but that doesn't mean you're out of the project. Once this spike's blooms are gone, you may come up with the perfect way to grow them and teach us all a little something ;)
