Default specialty native orchids in North America

Hello Orchid Afficionados

While I do grow, I am primarily involved in seeking out natives in their habitat for purpose of photography and personal education. We have a small group of regional "hunters" and we travel frequently during growing season in the midwest to known sites we follow as well as searching for new locations. I lecture via slide show and write for small specialty journals on my favorite subject. Those of similar interest, feel free to contact me. tom in Cleveland

Hi Tom, I do "hunt" in the wild here as well though not as much as some others. Some of my picss are from those trips mainly into the Fakahatchee Strand. Dave aka 'flhiker' does a lot more "hunting" in that area and so does 'mikeurquia' who is strictly wild orchids. Im sure there are more but those are the 2 Ive met personally and have more pics and knowledge than I do.
Welcome to the OB , there's a little something for everyone.

You might want to check my thread I just posted this a.m.

I have no idea if this orchid grows as far west as your travels (I'm in Miane) but you might recognize it.

Hello Tom, welcome to the OB. I have found a patch of the Rattlesnake plantain orchid at the Mohican state forest but I am sure there more species there, it is a very large area. Happy hunting!

Hi Tom, weclome. I share your love of hunting wild orchids. You and your buddies NEED to make a trip to the Florida Everglades someday. You will not be disappointed. What kind of orchids are you finding in your area or hikes? Just PM me if you are going to be in the area and I will be happy to show you around the Strand.
