Brassia species
Default Brassia species

Hey everyone

I picked up a brassica species from a grower today. He got them in simply labeled as brassia species, and I'm looking for some help with an idea, so I can keep it happy.

Blooms have a nice, sweetly floral scent that is not too over powering. Blooms ate all about 6.5 inches in length and only about 2 inches at their widest point. I'm sorry I didn't have a ruler with centimeters handy. One spike is complete but the second spike had been broken off and is incomplete. There is also an old trimmed inflorescence from the same pseudobulb

Among the more commonly grown species, I think Brassia verrucosa may be most likely. Look for green warts near the base of the lip. Does the scent have a spicy aspect at all, like black pepper?

There are no warts on the lip at all, and the sent is purely sweet, no spicyness at all.

I picked up the plant at my local AOS judging educational seminar this weekend. The focus was on oncidiums, we were supposed to have someone come and talk on brassia but had to cancel at the last minute. No one at the seminar was able to ID them. I know that one of them will be going to the person who was going to present on brassia, and those of us who got one of them is hoping to find out what it is

OK, I'll check out a few other possibilities. If you could get a better close-up of the center of a flower it might be helpful.
