I bought 1 Phal from the local TJ several years ago. It's nice, but a NOID, as are all orchids at this particular TJ. I am trying to avoid the NOID & just buy tagged plants so it's not where I buy orchids now.

Okay... my TJ's orchids, most of these are NOIDs but some of them were IDd for me by Matsui Orchids, which supplies a lot of TJs orchids and I have gotten several with tags, not common, but if you look you can occasionally find the tags still in the pots.

Dendrobium Pretty Doll

Oncidium Rosy Sunset 'Pacific Satin'

Miltassia Shelob 'Tolkien" (Dogs pictured for scale. Currently showing 5 spikes that have not yet bloomed!)

Paph Hsinying 'Alien' vinicolor.

NOID Phal. (Looks like Phal. Taida Salu)

NOID Mini Phal. No clue what it is, but I love the color. My photos do not pick up the dark orange center on these blooms. Very pretty. This one also as a couple of basal keikis, which are why I bought it. I figured I could let it grow and see what it does.

NOID Zygo hybrid. Looks like Zygonisia Cynosure 'Blue Birds' Maybe? The scent is wonderful and it's why I bought it.

Oncidium Wild Willie 'Pacific Bingo' I didn't have one like this and it's fragrant to boot! Not the best looking plant, the pbulbs grow at weird angles, but it's spiked for me twice, just from sitting on my kitchen counter, so I have no complaints!

Very nice. That purple one is a Zygonisia I have the same one. I think it's a Zygonisia that's bred back to a Aganisia cyanea. That's what I have found in my search to id this plant. It seems to be pretty common at trader joes right now. If you do an image search for Zygonisia Murasakikomach you will see others like this.

I like that Oncidium Wild Willie 'Pacific Bingo' very cool looking.

I like No ID plants they are fun it makes me do more research and learn. I am not going to be showing or breeding these plants so who cares as long as the plant is healthy and makes me happy I buy it.

RJ: The only TJ's I have visited (somewhere to the west of downtown Hou) had a very disappointing selection. Is there more than one store in the Houston area?

The Zygo, I just loved the shape of the flowers and I've wanted to try growing one for a while, but the ones I want usually sell out pretty quick and I'm not 100% sure they will grow well in my conditions. It's really nice to be able to grab a plant like that for 12$ and not feel too put out if you kill it.

I see Oncidium Wild Willie at my TJs off and on all the time. I decided to grab one when I found one with a tag and discovered that it was fragrant. It's not as strong a scent as the zygo, but it is enough that when you walk up to the kitchen counter, you get a breath of light floral. This is my first winter that I have a house full of blooming plants and I'm finding that it does a LOT for chasing away the winter doldrums.

Default Huge Cym at TJ's

I stopped in our TJ's today for the first time in a while since lately they have only had Phals. They had a HUGE Cymbidium there in a 10 inch pot. Had to be almost 3 feet tall with many growths and 4 or 5 flower spikes with beautiful huge yellow flowers on it. It was $21 and I had it in my hand . Then I thought it through and decided I didn't really want something this big. I said to hubby it will get larger, MUCH larger I told him about the video I saw on you tube with the guy using an axe to divide on that was in a 5 gallon pail !

I was feeling so guilty for buying another zygo when I just bought my first on Monday. After reading this post I just might go back and get that other one. Thank you so much! I'm not alone. I'll send pictures.

Haha you are not alone. I can't wait for Tuesday to check out TJ orchid selection. I am also going to try and save my friends Phal. She says it is Dead. But she told me it has some green roots. I am really looking for minis and a Zygo that has a good amount of green.

We would love to see photos!

Now I know the name of that dendrobium!
Pretty Doll!
I saw a few of them at my TJ, thought they were cute, but the flower count was so low.
Then I went to flower district and they had the same plant. slightly higher flower count but it was four times more. forget it! hahaha

I see that zygonia (?) for the first time at TJ. I had a very long pause in front of it, then put down my urge. hahaha

TJ is a great place if you happen to find what you like in good conditions.
