Wikimedia = Familia: Orchidaceae • Subfamilia: Epidendroideae • Tribus: Arethuseae • Subtribus: Coelogyninae • Genus: Thunia Thunia - Wikimedia Commons (same as Dutch Wikipedia)

Wikipedia (English) = Family: Orchidaceae Subfamily: Epidendroideae Tribe: Arethuseae Subtribe: Thuniinae
Genus: Thunia Thunia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Other linky = Coelogyninae

What can I say Taxonomy......

The plant is about 50-70cm or 20-30 inch. Mine is 50 cm but I've seen taller. The canes get to about 3 cm / 1 inch in diameter.

Thanks for the dimensions - I find the growth habit of these guys really spectacular. No chance you have a whole plant shot?

It's interesting that the other language wikipedia articles list this under coelogyninae. Because I'm a nerd, I went and did a bit more research, and looked up the latest taxonomical analysis. Remarkably, it seems like using certain phylogenic alignments, Thunia are distantly related to the coelogyne. I'm not a taxonomist so I can't sort through most of the data, but if anyone is interested, you can check it out here.
