Well, I guess I will have to get both of them! HeHeHe No problem!

Dorothy 03-07-2008 08:36 PM

They both have L. briegeri in their lineage .. it's one of their parents ..
and Slc Jewel Box is the parent of Mine Gold and the grandparent of the Barefoot Mailman ..
Boy.. these orchids get around !

If you want the complete breakdown .. let me know and I can post it :D

OOOOOOK, but you asked for it ...

First let me start with this link if anyone is interested in purchasing Slc. Mine Gold 'Corona' AM/AOS you can find it here - Austin Creek Orchids - Cattleya Alliance Hybrids

and to make it very easy -

Slc. Mine Gold 'Corona' AM/AOS - is comprised of
L. briegeri, C. (now Guarianthe) aurantiaca, C. dowiana, Soph. purpurata, C. mossiae, Soph. cinnabariana and Soph. coccinea

Slc. Barefoot Mailman is comprised of - L. briegeri, C.(now Guarianthe) aurantiaca, C. dowiana, Soph. purpurata, C. mossiae, Soph. cinnabarina, Soph. coccinea
or possibly - C. trianae and Soph. harpophylla

Below was found as per RHS -
----------------------------------------------------
Slc. Mine Gold 'Corona' AM/AOS = L.briegeri x Slc. Jewel Box

Slc. Jewel Box = (C. aurantiaca x Slc.Anzac)

Slc Anzac = (Sc. Marathon × LC. Dominiana)

Sc. Marathon = (C. Empress Frederick x Soph. Psyche)

Lc. Dominiana = (C. dowiana x Soph. purpurata)

C. Empress Frederick = (C. dowiana x C. mossiae)

Soph. Psyche= (Soph. cinnabarina x Soph. coccinea)
----------------------------------------------------
Slc. Barefoot Mailman = (L. briegeri x Slc. Madge Fordyce)

Slc. Madge Fordyce = (Slc. or Guarisophleya Jewel Box x Sc. Doris)

Sc. Doris = (C. dowiana x Soph. coccinea) [Bull-12/1/1904]
or
Sc. Doris = (C. trianae x Soph. harpophylla)[Cookson-1/1/1894]

Slc.(Guarisophleya) Jewel Box = (Guarianthe aurantiaca x Sc. Anzac)

Sc. Anzac - see above
------------------------------------------
Guarisophleya [Gsl.] = Cattleya x Guarianthe x Sophronitis

Guarianthe -
Some species have been moved to the
genus Guarianthe from Cattleya recently - The 4 species affected are:
Cattleya aurantiaca - now - Guarianthe aurantiaca
Cattleya bowringiana - now - Guarianthe bowringiana
Cattleya patinii - now - Guarianthe patinii
Cattleya skinneri - now - Guarianthe skinneri

Holy moly--no wonder they look so much alike. Thank you and have a good rest.
Goofy question---could the seed parent be equated to the male contribution and the pod parent be equated to the female contribution of the animal world?
Well, the pods are pregnant--aren't they??:scratchhead:

Dorothy 03-08-2008 01:53 PM

You are most certainly right ;)
(Thanks, I laid down and feel revived :coverlaugh: )

Yet another question:
When it's written ?????X?????? ---which parent is usually written first? I'm used to reading dog pedigrees.

Dorothy 03-08-2008 03:15 PM

Seed Parent X Pollen Parent :)
This is the RHS page where you can enter in the Genus and Grex ( or hybrid name) and find out the plant's parent - Royal Horticultural Society - Plants: The International Orchid Register
(you can also enter in one name and it will bring up a complete search example .. if you are looking of Slc Barefoot Mailman .. you can just enter Barefoot or Mailman into the Grex name and it will match it and bring up everything listed with that name)
or enter the seed and pollen parents to find out the hybrid (grex) name here - Royal Horticultural Society - Plants: The International Orchid Register
:)
