Trim roots for Cattleya?

Hi!

I am about to re-pot a Cattleya and a couple other in the same genera. The roots are growing and are now over the pot.

Beside cutting mushy roots out, do I trim the good roots to a shorter size? If so, how long should they be?

Re roots, is that same procedure for all orchid?
