Cattlianthe Chocolate Drop
I've had several fascinating hybrids in my collection with Chocolate Drop as a parent. Funny enough, though, I was never able to get my hands on the actual Chocolate Drop (C. guttata × Guarianthe aurantiaca) until a year or so ago. To my delight, this beautiful orchid bloomed for me earlier this month. I love the waxy texture of the long-lasting blooms and that deep crimson coloring.

Likely it's fragrant too (at least at some times of the day) At least some cultivars are.

The colors are great on this hybrid. And yes, I too am interested in learning if your particular plant's flowers are fragrant. Congrats on finally finding this one.

I have a couple of plants with Chocolate Drop as either a parent or grandparent. Neither have flowered yet but if they bloom like the photo supplied I will be very happy.

Thanks, Steve The deep red tones definitely catch the eye. Also, to answer your question, my Chocolate Drop is very fragrant. It smells like the gardenia bush I once had in my yard mixed with a citrusy scent. Quite strong yet pleasant.

This is lovely! Did you get this one from SVO? I bought a selfing from their plant last year; it's not blooming yet but looking good. Can't wait for that fragrance; I love the gardenia fragrance.
