I would suggest you start online orchid buying with established orchid nurseries, rather than individuals on Amazon and eBay. Almost every week we see a new thread started by somebody who bought a bad plant from Amazon or eBay. Even if a real nursery charges more, it's usually worth it.

There is a Vendor Feedback forum here. Look up some of the vendors and see the glowing reviews.
