Default Disa?

So, I became intrigued when I saw some pictures of Disa orchids from the WOC. Does anyone know anything about Disas? Anyone know where to get them in the states? Just curious...

if your looking to purchase some disa orchids take a look at The Gore Orchid Conservatory - Paph and Phrag Orchid Species Specialists - For Sale! they seem to have a good selection. ive had an interest in them, but haven't purchased any yet due to the need for a little more elaborate set up. they like well drained media kind of like phrags and like to have the bottome of they're pots flooded a couple times a day with cold water (about 50 degrees) most growers use a ebb and flow setup with a small fridge holding the water and pumps on a timer. maybe this summer after I get a greenhouse built ill worry about getting some of these guys. they def have some pretty intense color.

Go under scientific matters and then Disa cornuta in this forum and read on. I posted a few links you can read about Disas in general, along with a bit of stuff about South Africa.

As a heads up, apparently not all Disas grow the same way. The most commonly grown ones are Disa uniflora, Disa tripetaloides, and Disa auratum.

PS: I don't own any Disas, but am currently looking into growing some myself.

If you read the culture info at Gore it says they are very picky about being watered with anything other than RO or distilled water.
