Default Sharry Baby transparent leaves with "the spots"

HI Everyone,
I know Sharry Baby is notorious for getting the spotting but my massive sharry baby was crammed into a pot that was at least a size too small making it near impossible to water. It sprouted 5-6 new fans before I got around to repotting it one of the fans clearly had been watered directly on it and the new leaves were not only heavily spotted but transparent and slippery so I cut the entire growth off and sterilized it while repotting. All of the roots seemed to be in great condition despite the spagnum moss being completely deteriorated and yucky. I used repot me's imperial oncidium mix and obviously a bigger pot. Was this the right move? should I have left it alone? I didn't take pictures sorry.
