It exploded briefly when Hiester posted his need to get a grip with the premise the Phal might really be in the tank. When you confirmed the grand illusion thingy....it went right back to normal.

Truth is....I remain unclear now.

Stubby is in the tank.

I didnt MEAN to confirm it. I only meant that, were it an illusion, it would be a good one.

How's your head now? :-)

OMG! K....my head exploded again. Were my hair not in a pony tail right now, pieces would be all over the walls and ceiling.

Please share what compelled you to this, for however briefly. There are no aquatic orchids, after all!

Is the premise Stubby will be ingesting something organic during these emersions it can not get otherwise? And, if so, with no downsides?

Edit: while orchids growing in wild receive important nutrients from the humid air, they are also not evolved to be emersed in water! Re the epiphytes, this includes the roots!
This is why media with excellent drainage for them is key....also to insure ongoing air to the roots.

Stubby is basically a garbage phal, since he was declining the entire time I had him, until he had only one measly inch of root left. I could have thrown him in the garbage, anyway. But I relegated him to bare-minimum care, as I do with the occasional garbage plant, in the off chance they muster up a will to live.

He is mounted on a stick. I couldnt be bothered to dunk him in a pail of water when he's thirsty. The fish tank is already set up, I just drop him in there for a drink. That is his 'bare-minimum' and he responded immediately and favorably.

We have on our hands the very FIRST aquatic orchid, (y) ladies and gentleman. Stubby, the aqua-phal!

Okay! Thanks for these data, I am actually getting clear on this now! And....it is actually not insane at all! I now get it, and I kinda like it, very creative!

ALL my phals are from the garbage! But I pot even those with meager roots, first in tiny pots in perfectly draining media, I grow nothing mounted. They do require a lot of attention at first....but that's just a given.
