New Ang. Eburneum-- Care? Male
Question New Ang. Eburneum (PICTURES!!)-- Care?

I ADDED PICTURES, SEE BELOW!

Hey everyone!

I got a great deal on my new chid today! After befriending a worker at Menne's Nursery today, my cousin and I were able to get Angraecum eburneum for $20!!! Its about a foot tall ith 8-10 leaves. (ik, this is where everyone starts thinking "okkkk, and how about a picture???" -- theyre coming!!)

Anyway, i was just wondering about some general care guidelines from people with experience with this angraecum. I've heard bright light, I'm thinking is a south-east facing window, but i also have a westward window which gets good light at sunset and not much midday sun. Thoughts?

Temperature will be difficult-- where I live it's only hot in July, otherwise its not above 80s during the day. Will average home temperatures be ok??

Lots of water I hear?

anything else? thanks so much!!

Since no one has answered I can give you how I grow a primary eburnum hybrid.

Your southeast window sounds the best and your home temps will be fine. I grow mine in Catt light, in grow rocks in a clay pot sitting in a saucer of water. It still gets watered every third day.

My primary is a big one too.

I grow mine in full sun warm temps and plenty of water. It produces may offshoots from the lower parts of the plant, I leave them on so it will make a nice big specimen. make sure it gets good circulation too. mine is in a large terra cotta pot using the Dendrobium mix they sell at Home detpot, although I will change it to tree fern chunks when I repot it.

IOSPE has it as a low light plant and the picture of the plant in situ also looks like its in a shady spot, so I'll assume it will bloom in lower lights, the foliage might certainly be prettier in high light. But as I said mine is doing great in full sun. Here is the IOSPE sight IOSPE PHOTOS

I’m back, with pictures!

Alright, the first one, what are these brown spots that are on the undersides of all the leaves? I have another angraecoid with the same spots. Any ideas??

Second, here’s the plant! Pretty big for $20!

Third, hows the soil look? its just regular old bark, no charcoal or anything. I’ve heard they like being mounted, but they man at the nursery said he doesn’t suggest using sphag. ALSO, theres some brown along where the leaf meets the stem, any ideas why?

And fourth, all the leaves have those pressure tears, I know they’re just from the weight of the leaves, but could it be that the plant is lacking nutrients that would help make the leaves stronger so they don’t bend and tear? And if so, what do I do?

Also, what exactly does it mean that Angraecoids don’t like their roots being disturbed? Does that mean don’t transplant unless completely necessary, or do something special when transplanting, or?

So I know it looks pretty beat up, do you think its recoverable? Suggestions? Thanks so much for the help everyone, I really appreciate it.

I think they say every orchid doesn't want its roots disturbed but I got my primary hybrid bare root and it had been divided. I potted it up as described above and it is growing like crazy.

The first pic is a fungal mark and if it is hard, not a problem. The fourth pic isn't a problem either.

I'm sure it can be mounted but it better be a very substantial mount. Mine has several growths and is big and very heavy and it will have to be watered daily.
