Does the one on the right look like a spike from here? I know that's a baby root on the left there

Hmm, looks like a spike to me. Especially since it's coming out under a leaf and it has those familiar grooves. If the tip looks like a mitten, it's a spike.

I'm no expert. Just basing it on what I've seen my phals do.
