I gave up trying to confine mine, I just let it do its thing and it's happy. These really don't like root disturbance. And they just tend to get longer growths... the roots run the length of the growth (however many pseudobulbs may be stacked up) down to the medium.
Hi Roberta,
Thanks for the reply.
The orchid in post is really massive, looking forward to get something like that in future
I think I will leave mine alone and see what happens.
Yes. These are very thirsty. You might even put water in that saucer under the pot, see how fast it drinks it up. We just got through some days that were VERY hot. At such times, watering daily or every other day may be required.

Sounds good...
Thank you so much Roberta, you have always answer for my questions. I am glad that we have experts like you here on OB.
These guys can get fairly big. This one is about 12 years old. Started from one bulb, given to us by a friend. It grew in a 4” hanging basket until last year when we potted it in this bigger pot. It did not bloom this spring because of repotting (?). It gets watered every day except during the winter. When it gets watered depending on the weight of the pot. But stays on the damp side. Love that coconut fragrance!
