Oncidium Witches jewel ivory lips.
I posted about it in the "orchids in bloom" thread.

bobcat, that is some seriously impressive root growth. Don't think I have seen anything as prolific but now it's stuck lol. How to free those roots...
Clawhammer, mastery at work. That is enviously beautiful. But I hear ya on repotting them. I had one attach itself to the wall recently. Had to pry the roots off before I could move the orchid. Yours look stuck all over

Good question. I've read plenty of posts about repotting that say "It is not super important to get all of the old media out of the roots, just get what you can". Does the same apply to removing the old pot out of the roots?
All joking aside...
I haven't decided yet whether to repot this year or not. The plant has been in that pot for 11 months now, and there is a lot of moss in that mix. As vigorous as that root system is, I assume that if I repot when the next new growth is rooting, it will replace what it loses when I free it from its current situation.

I'd just cut the pot to the extent that it can be done without slicing roots. Then repot into something larger. Then any new roots have an escape route, but you don't have to sacrifice the existing ones.

They say size doesn't matter, but it's a very big root, no? HAHAHAHAHA
Happy Friday!!!
