I'm worried about how my phals are going to do in the summer when we have the AC on- their table is right above a vent, which doesn't seem to cause them trouble in the winter since it directs the air away from them, but still. We keep our AC pretty low some days, and open the windows at night when it gets even cooler.
I have both equestris and their hybrids and “supermarket” hybrids. My winter temps for them have ranged from about 55-65 each day.
I’ve had more trouble with the latter regarding root rot. The equestris types either went into hibernation or just kept on growing but I didn’t lose any of them
I have had all my phalaenopsis in S/H for a year now and I’m still trying to get a feel for things. I was curious how low I could go tempwise. I’d like to know they can tolerate a cooler temp range in the fall so I could leave them in the greenhouse a little longer.
I recently came across an article from the AOS Orchids Magazine that while it explains how Phals are grown commercially. There is some good information in there for a beginner. The title is "Growing the Best Phalaenopsis". It is a four part series that was run from January 2007 through April 2007 issues. See links.
Samantha thanks a lot for those four informative articles. Now I am getting greedy, do you have more similar articles about dendrobiums, cattleas etc.
Thanking you,
