Default What do you think ?

Old spiney my nodosa mounted it's self on a clay pot a long time ago . Here is what I would like to have your opinion about .
It has a lot of old roots layer on layer of them , and has become heavy , (hit the floor several times when the hanger let go ) Would you divide it up in large hunks and remount it ? leave it alone? any other ideas are welcome . Thanks Gin

Leave it. Thats an awesome specimen, and there are not a lot of those in the world for people to see. Huge specimen plants are great for letting us all see what is possible with the proper care and culture. How many years old is it?

I think it looks awesome too, but if it's hitting the floor isn't it becomming damage or the high risk or becomming damaged?

What about watering? Do you have to move this or lug this big boy around, I would think this would be a heck of a job if it's that heavy

I'm not sure what I would do if this was my plant (I wish) But I would consider dividing it into 2, dunno if that's at all possible with such a large orchid, it doesn't always work out the way you want it too. Also B nodosa's are pretty tough orchids!

It would be a shame to see such a lovely large orchid like that to come apart, unless this is really what you wanted of course.

I say look for an alternative of mounting and leave it closer to the ground so it's safe from falling and YOU are not underneith it.

Regards

Thanks for the feed back , Not sure how long I have had it at least 15 years probably longer , in the beginning it would leave the pot and I would redo it .
It is hung under a tree in the summer, on the porch during the winter . Watered with a submersable pump . It has lost leaves from falling .
I am going to leave it alone, and try to add an extra hanger , it has 2 now .... thanks all.. Gin

Gin, maybe a hanger that supports it from the bottom is the way to go...something like this?
