This outdoor growing season - Orchid Board

I was woundering if this summer was a strange growing season for most it seem like I missed the growth cycle and have a lot of stuff that blooms later in the year are blooming now or earlyer .

Well the weather people are saying it is a "El Nino" year. That could throw a lot of normal timing off.

The last month for myself has been cooler than usual (by 20 to 30 degrees). 2 of my Phals have started spiking a month early. One is still in bloom (has been since May) on a spike and forming new buds on that spike still, and has a new spike that just started. Not that I mind at all I just hope that getting their seasons mixed up doesn't mess them up too bad.

Ya, some of my plants have shown weird growth patterns. I just chalked it up to El Nino.

Here in the plain states it been mid 70's to 80 almost all summer only one week in july 90's we should of been in that mid june. But may all the way up to july we were only in the mid 60's . strang if you ask me great for corn i think.

Same here , I have a spring blooming species Dend. that is blooming a few flowers , also a couple other types that are off season . It has been cool for the time of the year ..

I only have a few plants outside, so I haven't seen much odd behavior there, but Friday, we had frost warnings, and I had to use the furnace this week end to get my house up to 70 degrees. Go figure.

Ya, on my earlier post, I forgot to mention that here in Hawaii we had a record breaking cold May followed by a record breaking hot June. I usually have to initiate spiking on my Laelia purpuratas by reducing water to them but this year they bloomed all on their own. I wonder if it will be a strong El Nino.

It's been a typical hot summer for us. Prolly won't cool down for another 2 months, so I have very few chids in bloom right now.
