Vanda Udomchai (Ascocenda Udomchai)
I am quite proud to post this thread because of the strong Thailand connection. I live in Chaiyaphum Thailand.
The 'correct' name is Vanda Udomchai (as it formerly was called Ascocenda Udomchai). I purchased this plant from a wonderful dealer in Nakhon Ratchasima, about 140 km from where I live. I did a lot of research, and this vanda mainly originates in the area of Thailand that I live in, but the plant is almost like a well-kept secret.
I am attaching some pictures of my plant and the last two pictures of what the blooms will look like.

That is gorgeous! And I'm very envious of those of you who have the right conditions to grow Vandas.

Growing vandas in Thailand
Cheri, thank you for the compliment about both this vanda and being envious. However, prcautions must be taken growing all orchids because of the extreme hot temps and extreme intense sunshine here, so it is not as easy as it looks. All orchids must be grown under a shade cloth and heavily watered, even though the humidity is very high. And don't be too envious because living here in hot humid weather is really not for me.
What city do you live in? I lived in the EastTawas/Oscoda area during all of the 1980's. I miss the cooler temps and being able to go perch fishing on Lake Huron. I miss picking Morel mushrooms. My ex-wife and my daughter and my four granddaughters and one great granddaughter still live in this area. So I am envious of your cooler climate.
Many thanks for my beautiful vanda. I also think it is so beautiful and it is my favorite orchid that I have, especially having a background with its roots from my area that I live in.

That is one hot area of the world, and although all the beautiful plants around there , I must say I do not envy you! Sorry. But that is one beautiful orchid

Thank You. But correct me if I am wrong--I thought the Gulf Coast in America is also very hot and humid.

Hot-humid
You are correct except, there are a couple of controlling factors, the giant coastal oaks in my yard help tremediously on keeping my AC not overworked. My outside temp rarely exceeds lower 90’s. Also I think you also probably see a lot of rain as I do. I havent been to Thailand but I did spend 69-70 in Viet Nam and WOW! I turned brown. And yellow headed.

Great reply. Thank You. I can assume you were in the military during the Vietnam War. I also was in the Army from March 1972 to March 1975 during the Vietnam War, but I never had to go to Vietnam. In fact, I spent all 3 years after basic training in the US Army Band in Indianapolis. I am proud for what you did.
