That's gorgeous!! This species has been on my wishlist for a long time, and I think you're photo has convinced me that I need to get it.
Since when has Ascocentrum been lumped into Vanda? I only knew it as Ascocentrum ampullaceum, but it seems that they're also gone ahead and modified the species name as well?

The color is gorgeous... I know it comes in a range of colors, that one is particularly saturated. All sorts of things got lumped into Vanda (probably happened about the same time that Neofinetia got the "treatment")... and the species change is just to make the Latin gender of the species agree with that of the new genus. What gets me is when they change the genus and create an ambiguity because there's already a species with that name in the selected genus so they rename the species completely making it unrecognizable. The Cattleya tribe has some egregious examples. (Like Sophronitis bicolor becoming Cattleya dichroma, Laelia flava becoming Cattleya crispata. Huh??)

Agreed Roberta, it is confusing, all these name changes. And above that some keep using the Brasilaelia name for Laelia that has been transferred to Cattleya. It makes the confusing complete.
This Vanda ampullacea has indeed a nice color. In real even much better than on photo. Somehow i have trouble getting red flowers good on a photo, unfortunately.

I think that red is the most difficult color to photograph. The camera sensor doesn't "see" it quite as the human eye does, and is perturbed even more by lighting - I have nearly given up trying to get color balance right with artificial light (even with Photoshop assistance), outside it even may look different photographed at noon or early/late. The human eye and brain can make adjustments, the camera doesn't (or it tries and doesn't get it quite right)
