Congratulations if you won! I hope you did not pay too much for it.

Unless I'm mistaken, looks like Ginger got the Kouen this time. Congrats.

My greedy side was bidding on it, even though I already have one. This latest one is a smidgen larger than mine. I did get the Hanagoromo though.

Yes it was brutal bidding at the last minute like that. Congrats on the Hanagoromo it is a beautiful Neo.

I think you should want a smaller kouen! Kouen is supposed to be a miniature hokage. Big kouen would just end up blurring the lines between true kouen and hokage, don't you think?

True that, but both are quite small, just that the latest one was maybe a fraction of an inch inch less small. I do like the tiniest Neos anyway.

Edited to add: And both are a bit smaller than the really nice Kouen that you posted on the FB Neofinetia group.

I think kouen is a must-have for all of us here. And I do want more than one.

Kouen doesn't have the exact markings as Hokage and Taiga have. Kouen is pretty constant with having most of the lower leaves being nearly purple/red/brown and the top, newer leaves more green-white-yellow. You see more variable tiger striping with Hokage and Taiga, and both have much longer leaves than Kouen. Kouen just has a smaller growing habit. It is also a very finicky plant and is very sensitive. The other two are much more durable in my opinion.

Kouen is one of my favs. I didn't know that it was more sensitive than some of the others. It is definitely unique and worth any extra effort! OMG, I'm starting to use the same logic with Neos as I did when I tried growing ghost orchids! I hope that I have better results this time!!!!

LOL bk10! Any rationalization to bond with Neofinetia is acceptable--says one Neonut to another. I do think Neofinetia are easier to grow than ghost orchids. I have seen some amazing specimens of these orchids, but--forgive me if I sound bigoted--how does one bond with roots?

Speaking of Kouen--this plant, a Manjushage, Momohime, Fukiden, and Mangetsu are the only Neofinetia plants on my wish list. I'm probably going to acquire the Momohime within the month. But the other four are going to be far more difficult--unless I win the lottery<S>.
