Blooming Neofinetia Falcata
Default Blooming Neofinetia Falcata

Hey everyone,

I recently got into neofinetias and went crazy for the great scent they put off. I have heard of some people with some that bloom several times a year, beacuse of their vigor. Even if they aren't hybrids.

Has anyone out there ever heard of a species Neofinetia orchid growing faster and be everblooming throughout the year? If so does anyone have divisions? : )

Also, anyone know of hybrids of the Neofinetia Falcata that bloom more often?

Thanks in advance!

-Tommy

No expert, but I have read something somewhere... Maybe on one of the other threads here or from another Neo site!?

I believe when given the correct conditions many variants/hybrids of Neofinetia falacta are capable of continual growth and potentially continual re-blooming.

Though I think you have to keep you conditions just so though to get this to happen. So Temps can never drop too low, Humidity/Water/Nutrients must be just so, and good light must also be considered.

Whether this is true or not, I'm not entirely sure. Though continual growth is probably possible with these factors taken into consideration.

Anyone else know more?.... Oh I'm sure someone out there does

I have a Neo falcata 'Shunkyuden' which has flowered 3x in last year under t5s in my office--flowering winter spring and fall, with night temps no less than 65 and daytime max 75-mostly nights are around hi 60s and days are low 70s . This seems the only neo which has prospered
and flowered in my challenging conditions

Can you give us more information on your growing conditions? I'm interested to also know how close you are growing to your T5 lights and also the footcandles. How many bulbs are you using and are the they 2ft or the 4ft bulbs. Are your Neo's potted in sphagnum moss or something else? I'm growing under T5 lights as well and I'm just lucky to have my neo's alive for another year...lol.

As a newbie to neo's, I'm interested in your set up as well. I have a neostylis, not a true neo but it does require similar set up.

It's 6 Inches under 2 two foot t5s.
Not sure of Footcandle measurement.
Using sphagnum in glazed pot.
It currently in spike.

Thank you! That really helps. I know the 2ft T5's aren't as strong as the 4ft so that information really helps. I have both the 2ft and 4ft T5's to experiment with.

Well, I have over 21 Neo's.... and I've never had one of them bloom continually or more than once per year. Some of mine have yet to bloom at all, and I've had most of them for well over a year. Right now they are all growing new roots like mad, so I'm hoping that I will have a very prosperous bloom season .... they all get good light (south-east) plus Supplemental CFL lighting, good water (Distilled) and decent temps. I'll be real disappointed if the some of mine don't bloom this year.
