Aerangis rhodosticta in Bloom & One Pod Maturing
Default Aerangis rhodosticta in Bloom & One Pod Maturing

This was given to me as a gift in the fall of 2014 with three spikes. They took forever to make actual buds on the spikes, and now I know that is how it is with these guys.

It only made a few flowers on each of those spikes, but this year, it made two spikes and each has 17 and 23 flowers!!! Yay!!!

Last time one flower self-pollinated and I pinched off the pod. I kinda regret it but it happened again this year, and I'm going to leave it this time and hopefully get some babies off of it down the road.

Can anyone tell me how long it takes for the pod to mature on this species??

The pod has been growing very fast. It has been only about one week or so, but you can see it is about 10 times as big as non-fertilized pods. Amazing speed!

Sorry about the orientation of the last photo, but photobucket has been pain in the butt recently.

Those are really great-looking spikes. Amazing how big they are in relation to the small plant stature.

I've all but killed mine. Maybe I'll try again someday because I do love those blooms. Great looking spikes with a fairly high flower count.

WHat a beauty, I miss having this. I let mine dry out. Died of thirst.
