Note that this is an old thread... it is really better if you start a new one, you will get more attention to your post.

Angraecums in general should be grown pretty much like Vandas - lots of air around the roots needed, so a medium that is very open and drains well is important. It may tend to stay too wet in the coconut - do let it dry out to the "damp" point before you water again. (but don't let it dry out). The coconut is probably much better than sphagnum for letting air in, though.

In the photo, I am not sure what you're referring to about growing on the side. A close-up would help. Flowers are possible. Could also be new roots. You'll have the fun of watching it, and you will see, in time, what it's doing.

These are relatively low-light plants, Phalaenopsis light should be about right. (Oncidium light at the most) So it may be getting more light than it wants leading to pale color.
