orchids for terrariums
Over years with terrariums I have come to a conclusion that weneed to have obly those orchids which have ornamental foliage qnd slow growing ones that would spares you the tedious job of hold two long prongs to locate a strategic and visually appealing place inthe limited surface of a terrarium. Most of them belong to the jewel orchids group, such as Anoectochilus, goodyera, Hamaera, etc. etc. H. discolours is extremelt hardy and forns a dense clump od dark vela' roxburghii is irresistibly beautifuk but clusters sparselt. Goodyera and macodes from Borneoi and Indonesia are very good. All these need diffused light and round the year warmth which you may please note.

There are varieties of compact and dwarf cultivars of selegenellas, mini-African violets, variegated ajuga reptans , mini bamboos, dwarf hybrid spathaglottis bearing short spikes of deep prple and yellow blooms. Also there are many other gesnerides that should be suitable.Take the initative to visit some nurseries in your area you find many more to select for your terrarium.

These do great in my dart frog vivs, 65 to 85 degrees.
Upper level:
Dendrobium oligophyllum
Oncidium croesus
Bulbophyllum Kalimpong
Cirrhopetalum tingabarinum
Bulbophyllum fascinator
Mid level/Lower levl:
Dracula lotax
Masdevallia herradure
Masdevallia "Glowing embers"
Pleurothallis allenii
Pleurothallis microphylla
Restrepia brachypus
Restrepia muscifera
Currently experimenting with:
Bulbophyllum lasiochilum
Bulbophyllum odoratissimum
Pleurothallis restrepioides "dragonstone"
Pleurothallis fastidiosa
Pleurothallis megalops
Restrepia antennifera
Masdevallia "Angel tang"
All are recent additions to vivs, too soon to tell whether or not they flourish, but I think they will do just fine

Epigeneium nakaharai
Hi,
Has anyone posted Epigeneium nakaharai as a good terrarium grower? Mine seems to be fairly warm temperature tolerant and can bloom almost anytime of year upon maturation of each new growth.
However, It does grow slowly, but mine recently put out a new growth from a back bulb so it is now growing in 2 directions.
also, other species that are doing well in the terrarium are:
Dendrobium rigidum (just keeps blooming)
Dendrobium prenticei (i have a seedling but it is amazing)
Cadetia Taylori (growing well!)

Jason,
Your plant is really pretty. Where did you acquire it? The flower reminds me of Epi. porpax ! Great job. How much light do you have in your viv? My D. rigidum is hanging out in the sunnier part of my gh. My little vivs are supporting several pleuros and Angraecum disticum, Lepanthanopsis astrophora and a Lepantes calodictyon. Thanks for sharing the pics !

I also have a Haraella odorata in my 55 gallon tank. This tank gets misted a few times daily and the fan come on and off all day except during midday (which in my mind should be the hottest part of the day). This plant is doing very well mounted on a stick.
Its going to flower and is growing roots like crazy.

The link is dead but I have seen your H. odorata more then a few times while surfing around on orchids in vivs, and looks like it absolutely loves it's environment!
Shame we don't seem to have it in Australia, though .
