My terrarium - update and all species added
Default My terrarium - update and all species added

My terrarium so far has been pretty successful.

I've added a Lepanthes Pilosella, Lepanthes 'Coral Butterfly' (no idea on its crosses), Aernagis Pumilio and Anoectochilus Roxburghii Hayata 'Hong Sia'.

The other species are:
Restrepia Falgenbergii
Stelis Stevenosii
Masdevallia Measuriana
Dracula Lotax (lost a leaf as a small amount of wet moss rotted a leaf).

All orchids seem happy overall so far other than the Stelis which wasn't particularly happy to begin with.

The Lepanthes Pilosella has a new small growth from its vine it seems, and the 'Coral Butterfly' seems to be growing its roots more. Humidity doesn't seem to be a problem at all.

However, there has been some mould out breaks. I've used hydrogen peroxide 6% to keep it at bay which seems to have killed it but obviously it comes straight back. I also think this killed the Springtails so today I added a huge batch so hopefully they'll sort the problem, but they didn't last time.

I have ordered a very small fan that I'm hoping will fight the mould off but I'm not sure it will and I'm concerned it will affect the Lepanthes poorly.

Anyone else have experience with killing mould off in terrariums?

Hi, looking great. Is it more like a Paladarium, with running water? From were that fern and moss come from? You have a Dracula with constant wet feet? I mean, it looks like you mixed fish tank plants with orchids? ...sorry for all the questions, I am trying to interpreted the pictures.

It is normal to have some mould at the beginning, the fan is definitely need it in there if you want to keep a safe environment, also some springtails if you have access. If not springtails introduced yet, you can rub the wood with some dilute alcohol if you can access the surface with your hand or with long tweezers. The mould will disappear with time. But it need to be keeps under control.

Looks really good.

Can't help with the mould issue as I have no idea about terrariums.
Is there a set amount of water cycling through?

@SADE2020 There's live sphagnum moss and somemkindnof cushion moss that's doing far better than I expected. I did get the sphagnum from a supplier but I gathered the cushion moss locally; I rinsed it very well for unwanted insects, nothing came out.

I've added a lot of Springtails already, one of the pictures which is just white dots are springtails.

The Dracula has access to slightly damp moss and capillary matting at all times
