Spike?! (Phal. equestris)
Still VERY early but I am pretty sure my little Phal. equestris (x self) is putting out its first spike! I got it about 4-5 weeks ago. It's definitely putting out a root on the other side, but I am fairly sure this is a spike (sorry for the cruddy picture). I believe this will be it's first ever bloom, and on my first Phal species!
I know I'm getting excited early, but I needed to share with people who would understand  |

You've managed to photograph it so that a leaf is covering most of what I think you intend for us to see. What you intend for us to see looks, judging by the visible portions, to be a new spike.

I'm also having a bit of trouble seeing what might be a spike, but I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you that that's what it is! Phal. equestris is one I hope to acquire soon. Would love to see yours when it does bloom.

It's actually pretty hard to see in person too, so it was hard to photograph. I circled it in the attached photo. I'll update later when I know for sure!

It's certainly in the right spot to be a spike! If it's flat-ish and mitten shaped, then it's a spike.

I'm not sure either but I can tell you mine is spiking now so timing is right.

So I am happy to confirm that my equestris IS definitely in spike, although it turns out what I thought was a spike isn't (or it might have been, but it stalled), but what I thought was a root turned out to be a spike, hurray!
Now just have to try to be patient until it blooms... will update once it does!
