Default How easy is Phal. violacea to grow ?

For those that grow this species Phal, how easy is this to grow and bloom ?

It is a Phal. I have always wanted but want some one who has experience growing this before I make my decision.

Thanks in advance.

Id vote pretty easy. I grow this alongside the rest of my Phal novelties. Temp in the 70-85 range, humidity always above 50%. They seem to grow pretty easy and flower in summer/fall.

I'd say easy too. Not nearly as picky as bellina.

I agree with above.. I am a widowsill grower with e Natural terrrarium (no lights etc) my 2cts worth : it all boils down to watching the roots and watering accordingly. I have a hybrid Violacea 'Alba' & a bellina. They are potted in different mediums & I have adjusted the potting mix in the years I have had them and I 've been through some heavy root rot in the past.... They both now flower each year as I have learn't what they 'prefer' in my conditions.

My hybrid violacea didn't like a pot at all. Impossible to keep the water right so I nearly killed it. Mounted it and now it's doing great because I can soak it in the morning and let it dry throughout the day. It's responded incredibly well and I have tons of new root growth and two leaves this season already.

I've had one violacea for nearly 2 years and aside from one month, it's been in constant bloom on its 2 spikes since I bought it. Mine is packed in rather dense sphag, with humidity in between 40 to 60% and in near Cattleya light.
The dense moss might not be for everyone though! I stuggle to get humidity up in winter so it compensates for that but I have to be very careful with my watering.

It's one of my easy care/easy bloom plants Now if only my max. tenufolia would be as easy!

This plant is easy to grow in my climate, and in fact thrives on neglect, esp when it is mounted and left in a dim corner in the tropics, lol. Problem only starts when too much care is given, and those watering and feeding causes rots.

I have both bellinas and violaceas, and while they are growing, I seem to have problem blooming them. I "bloomed" bellina recently, but only because it came with starting spike, so my only achievement was that it didn't stop developing, didn't dry out and bloomed (thanks to humidity tray).
I should probably try increasing light, or colder temps.

My experiences are that violaceas tend to need a little more light compared to bellinas to bloom.

However once you get them going, they almost never stop.

Good luck !
