Phalaenopsis modesta Spike!! Male
Talking Phalaenopsis modesta Spike!!

My little Phalaenopsis modesta has made it's first flower spike!! I purchased it from Brookside Orchids last September as NFS (Non Flowering Size) so I'm pretty surprised to see this spike, not complaining though! Grown under "Optimum" lights from BotanicalLeds.com, days at 25 C (77 F) nights at whatever nature gives us, usually around 16 C (61 F), kept lightly moist at all times, average of 60% RH during the day and 70% RH at night.

Make that Spikes!! When I was watering the Phal. modesta I spotted the tiniest bit of green poking out from under the oldest leaf, I'm really impressed by this double spike first blooming.

Nothing modest about that. Really nice going.

congrats, you grow your modesta very similar to how I grow my mannii but that gets even colder over winter.

I do have to ask though, what is that red spider mite looking spot with the white bite mark looking spots next to it?

Superb! I got one from Brookside around the same time and managed to kill it already.

Congrats. I wish my modesta would spike. I got it in spike and flower last year from Big Leaf. Nothing happening with it since then. No new leaves or spikes.

Congrats on the spike!!

As a note, NFS normally stands for "Near Blooming Size" which loosely corresponds to young plants which have never bloomed before but have become large enough to produce a spike 'soon'. I was told that this often means that the plant can be expected to bloom within 1-2 blooming seasons, with good care. So I'd say the grower was pretty spot on in their description!

Bad news everyone!! Both spikes blasted!! I think this is probably because I recently moved and the conditions are wildly different, much more humid but also much cooler with less light.
