Phal bellina 'Star'. This has become one of my favorite orchids. Pictures of the flowers never do a bellina justice. These flowers are not as great as some of the other bellinas but I happily trade that for this one's ability to tolerate cooler temperatures and the strong, pleasing fragrance. The fragrance is stronger in the morning, especially with the balmy summer climate of Ohio, but this one manages to be fragrant most of the day.

Nice! I like your mounting technique on the brick wall.

Fragrant?
Apologies, because of my glancing - and not fully reading your post - you already answered my premature question.

Thanks. I wish it were indeed mounted on that wall but it is in a basket so I can move it inside for the winter.

Your basket looks to be easily removable in your photo. I'm sure you experience some bitter temperatures during the winter.

Definitely an eye-catcher against that brick wall, (and probably a good nose catcher too).

beautiful leafmite and completely agree that Bellina's could always do with being more tolerant.

Wisdomseeker, I can highly recommend the bellina fragrance, it's also one of my favourite smells. Unfortunately all 4 of my bellina's are in various stages of recovery, violacea's are all in various stages of flowering so much hardier but the Bellina smell is so much more fruity than a violacea

Agree. "Stoked" to have been successful with this species in the past. Out of the three I had, two seemed to have almost a non-existent fragrance. I chalked this up to my lack of smell, along with the time of day I was truly paying attention to fragrances.

Some of them are not fragrant. After getting one that was not, I bought a clone that I knew would be.

Thanks. I like how it looks there, too. It is right by the door and at perfect nose-height.

Nice! That's a lot of green, does it change as the flowers mature?
