Phal growing is not complicated. Don't be frightened away. Warm temperatures, tap water and small amounts of plant food are adequate for nice Phal growth and flowering.

It works well once the gardener learns to use it. It may be less forgiving of overwatering. It may not be a good choice for warm growing orchids in a typically cool home environment.

What are your low outdoor temperatures in winter? Vanilla grows during hot, humid and wet weather. Light isn't that important. They start out in deep shade and climb up trees to flower in the sun.

It's probably not fungus. My first thought was you're not watering enough. And they would probably prefer a lot more light. If you had a spot outside they would prefer that when it's not freezing.
