As long as you give Latouriates warmth and lots of water, it seems to do well in chunky...

Here is the first bloom on Ascocentrum pumilum from Andy's orchids. Intense crystalline pink flowers that really stand out. Mounted and growing outdoors. Filtered sun and watered every other day....

Since I couldn't find large baskets in my area, I let it do it's own thing. The newest growth seems to be taking a turn back towards the mount. Still no flowers. I think grow lights...

It was doing well in a shady balcony in a (humid) coastal climate. Once I moved further inland (dry)... the Howeara did not like it mounted. It was going downhill pretty quickly so I potted it back...

I've found that many Encyclias including tampensis like to be watered frequently but dry out between waterings (as Keysguy mentioned). For me, in dry SoCal, mounting + daily watering has worked well.
